Gorgeous house in a beautiful area
We had a fabulous stay at Montecastello at the end of August. The castle was lovely- beautifully decorated and well thought out with everything we needed for 2 families with teenagers. The pool was beautiful as was the outdoor area where we sat and barbecued and sipped rose on many bright starry warm nights. Lots of films for teenagers to choose from and we all loved the open air conservatory looking out over the mountains for breakfast and coffee stops or for the teens to hang out and chat/ listen to music. We took some lovely long walks and runs in the surrounding area and enjoyed delicious traditional food at a fantastic restaurant high above on the mountain side. There was so much to do around the area - we never ran out of fun things. You can be busy or just sit and read by the pool. A trip to Pisa to see the Tower and then some food / shopping was enjoyed by all and made a great day out. The Cinque Verre also not far to get to and was amazing to walk between the villages Monterresso and Vernazza finishing with a much loved Vino Mochiata Campari to finish! Hosts Alison and Martin were so helpful and kind. Would definitely recommend this type of holiday for families and groups of friends.

Rundum wundervoller Urlaub
Montecastello ist ein wahres Idyll mitten in der toskanischen Berglandschaft, das wirklich keine Wünsche offen lässt.
Das tadellos saubere Haus verfügt über 4 sehr geschmackvolle Schlafzimmer und drei Badezimmer, ein sehr großes stilvolles Wohnzimmer, ein schönes Esszimmer mit langer Tafel für gemeinsame Mahlzeiten, einer perfekt ausgestatteten Küche und neben einem tollen großen Pool meinem Highlight: der überdachten Terrasse auf der wir wunderschöne gemeinsame Abende verbringen konnten. Die Natur und die Ruhe waren für uns überwältigend und herrlich entschleunigend. Die Gastgeber waren mehr als herzlich und standen uns zu jeder Zeit mit Rat und Tat zur Seite. Ich wurde sogar an meinem Geburtstag mit dem besten Schokoladen Kuchen aller Zeiten überrascht. Sofort würde ich wieder meinen Urlaub in Montecastello verbringen. Danke an Ally&Martin für die wunderschöne Zeit!

Traumhaftes Anwesen mit ebenso perfekten Gastgebern!
Montecastello ist wirklich ein wunderschönes Anwesen in der Toskana im schönen kleinen Örtchen Tavernelle. Das Anwesen verfügt über mehrere stilvolle eingerichtet Schlafzimmer, inkl. Badezimmern und Küche auf neustem Standard (Geschirr und Gläser gibt es wirklich ausreichend). Zusätzlich ist der Pool riesig und bietet einen wunderschönen Blick in der Berge oder in der Nacht auf den klaren Sternenhimmel. Das WLAN ist schnell genug zum arbeiten und streamen und im Wohnzimmer steht ein Flachbildfernseher samt Apple TV für den entspannten Netflix-Abend.

Und nun das Beste zum Schluss: Martin und Ally sind wirklich herausragend gastfreundliche und herzliche Gastgeber. Sie waren jederzeit für einen netten Plausch offen, haben unzählige Tipps gegeben, bei Reservierungen und Besorgungen selbstverständlich geholfen und wirklich alles gegeben um den Urlaub unvergesslich zu machen (Sie haben von sich aus einen hervorragenden Küchen zum Geburtstag meiner Partnerin gemacht und noch zusätzlich ihr ein Geschenk gemacht).

Alles in allem, ein wunderschönes Anwesen gepaart mit hervorragenden Gastgebern perfekt für jede Art von Anlass. Nur zu empfehlen und wir werden wiederkommen.

P.S.: Die Zugangsstraße soll höchstwahrscheinlich im Oktober 2020 verbessert werden, aber wer davor anreist sollte mit einem nicht allzu tiefgelegten Fahrzeug anreisen um bis zum Haus vorfahren zu können. Normaler PKW war easy, aber Sportwagen waren schwierig. Man kann aber sonst ca. 300-400 m entfernt vom Anwesen gratis parken.

Amazing Retreat
Had a wonderful stay at Montecastello , breath taking views & beautiful grounds. Our stay was made perfect by our lovely hosts Alison & Martin., nothing too much trouble, made us feel very welcome . Tranquil , most relaxing place I have ever been. Montecastello is perfect for families or groups alike . The history of this place is very apparent , absolutely beautiful place restored to its former glory lovingly by Alison & Martin. Was much bigger than I expected and the photographs don’t do this place justice , Tastefully decorated to a high standard , immaculate . Highly recommended , I’m already in the process of booking to return next year ! Thank you so much for making our holiday so special !

An amazing property in beautiful surroundings
We had a wonderful week staying at Montecastello. The property itself is easy to get to but beautifully quiet, in a lovely garden with stunning views across the mountains. It's all very well kept and we enjoyed the many different sitting and eating areas the house offers and of course the pool!
Ally and Martin are very welcoming and made our stay feel very easy. The boat trip we went on with Martin was a real highlight and both he and Ally were always very helpful with local advice.
I would highly recommend Montecastello for a holiday to suit all ages, whether you enjoy walking, spending time on the coast, wish to explore the amazing local area or just relax at a very special property.

My Italian Experience at Montecastello
I’m not one to normally write reviews, but my experience at Montecastello Villa is definitely worth a mention, especially as it was my first visit to Italy.
On arrival at the villa i was warmly greeted by Ally & Martin & was totally taken aback by its beauty & location right up in the mountains, with breathtaking views all the way round as far as the eye can see.
The castle itself is magnificent, the ambiance of every room with its Tuscany decor has been well thought out to give the true feeling of an old Italian castle with everything you could possibly need for your stay at the villa.
With its own swimming pool, maintained & looked after daily by Martin, relaxing around the pool, with views of the mountains was truly spectacular, the pictures just don’t do it justice.
Anyway I’d like to say a massive thank you to Ally & Martin for making me feel so welcome & being amazing hosts, you made my visit one to remember & I am truly in love with Italy now, thank you 🤗💕

An Amazing holiday
Wow wow wow. From the second you come up the drive way and see this amazing castle you cannot believe you are actually there. Once inside the place is amazing . From the gorgeous bedrooms to a lovely kitchen and the upstairs terrace where we spent many a morning just looking at the amazing view and taking in the blue pool. After a swim you can lounge on the day beds ands just relax. Wether you use monecastello as a base to come and go to the local villages restaurants and attractions or simply just chill around the pool for a week . You won't be dissapointed . Love love loved it. Can't wait to go back 😊😊

A fantastic place!
We had the pleasure of staying in Monte Castello for just over a week. Everything blew our expectations about this amazing, peaceful location with such a beautiful villa and top service from the owners (who were available but gave us total privacy).

Whether it was just chilling in the castle, taking a walk through the quaint, friendly local town or exploring the forest covered mountain we could not have asked for a better experience.

My boyfriend and I are big fans of nature and while we were there we were spoilt for choice, wild boar with piglets, deer and horses were all spotted and on an excursion up to the top of the mountain (where the sunny weather was contrasted with snow!) we even saw bear tracks!

The castle its self is grand yet cosy with opulent decor combined with all the comfort needed to fully relax.

We would wholeheartedly recommend staying there!

Surrounded by mountains and nature it's a fabulous place to stay and explore Tuscany. Perfect for walks in the mountains and some lovely spots in the grounds for yoga as the sun rises above the mountains and sets in the evening.

Setting ourselves up on the plateau at Montecastello with Mount Bocco in the forefront Panoramic views, crisp clean unpolluted air, morning song birds, it was both tranquility with exileration.

Montecastello, a charming Tuscan villa!
My family spent a week in this beautiful villa owned and operated by gracious hosts, Martin and Ally. Since we arrived late on our first day, Ally prepared a wonderful Italian meal for us to enjoy on the back patio overlooking the pool. What a relaxing and enjoyable way to begin our week in Montecastello. During the week we enjoyed days by the pool and days of travel to Cinque Terre and Lucca, but our favorite day was the boat trip up the Mediterranean Coast! The water was gorgeous and the dip at the end topped off this perfect day! The town of Tavernelle has quaint restaurants and gelato shops and we even found a wonderful tiny bakery tucked down a very narrow alleyway! This villa and Martin and Ally exceeded our expectations! Our only recommendation is to rent it for TWO weeks rather than one to have time to visit small mountain towns, hike and have plenty of pool days! Thank you Martin and Ally for your wonderful hospitality!

A Gem
This was an absolute diamond in the rough. Completely exceeded my expectations. The villa is magnificent as well as the surroundings. The villa is meticuously cared for by Martin and Ally the owners. Their graciousness made our stay there extra special. After a long travel day, Ally made us a wonderful dinner upon our arrival. The furnishings make the villa the home away from home feeling. We were all able to sit in the living room to watch movies in the evening and the veranda allowed to us have breakfast together outside. Also, I need to add that Martin makes the best cheeseburgers. Thanks again, Martin and Ally to allow us to share your wonderful villa. Look forward to coming back sometime in the future.

Upon our arrival, we were stunned as we rounded the turn in the driveway to see the beautiful Montecastello villa. The house is as pretty inside as the outside! The interior is decorated in the warm Tuscan colors that complement the architecture of the villa. Our gracious hosts were helpful with preparations prior to our trip, and with local recommendations for shopping and dining as well as giving us directions during our stay. We felt as if we did get a taste of Tuscany during our stay! We left with the hope of returning disappointed that we didn’t have more time to enjoy Montecastello but have hopes to visit again in the future!

Majestic and Mesmerising Montecastello
Tim and i spent a glorious week at Montecastello, first week of September. It very much lived up to the pictures online but they do not seem to be able to truly capture how absolutely gorgeous this castle and location is . It truly was something very special. From the surrounding bushland and animals to the incredibly unique and friendly, welcoming localities that are a very close drive. The castle is exceptionally well equipped and comfortable with anything else required at an easy drive. Lunch at the nearby Agriturismo Montagna Verde was to die for - only wished we had time to have eaten at the others too. Martin and Ally were fantastic hosts with exceptional pre, during and post communication and assistance. The day out on the boat was fabulous too !!!! thank you for a wonderful stay.

Heerlijk kasteel in de bergen
Wij hebben met 2 gezinnen een week doorgebracht in de Appenijnen bij Martin en Ally. Erg mooie plek, heerlijk huis met fijn zwembad. Prima verblijf met 8 personen. Martin en Ally doen er alles aan om je verblijf zo aangenaam mogelijk te maken. Ze wonen zelf in het tweede huis op de berg en laten zoveel mogelijk ruimte voor privacy. Een absolute aanrader.

Fantastic in every way
Montecastello did not disappoint at any level. As a property it is magically authentic with large rooms and comfortable beds. Stylishly decorated and has everything you could possibly need. Ally and Martin could not be more helpful from initial enquiries prior to booking right up to the end of our stay. The house is in a stunning location surrounded by incredible local restaurants, beautiful walks and numerous delightful Italian towns & villages. Martin offers a fantastic day boat trip which was loved by all ages. In conclusion it was an amazing holiday.

Stunning location, beautiful accommodation, outstanding service!
My husband and two children aged 10 and 12 stayed at MonteCastello in June 2018 for a week. The location of the house and the surrounding area is absolutely breathtaking. We spend a lot of time just relaxing at the house soaking up the tranquility. There is loads and loads of space for the kids to run about and explore, plus a gorgeous pool to enjoy. The house itself is extremely comfortable and filled with history and character, very comfortable beds and furnishings, lovely towels and bathrooms, DVDs, games and books galore. We had a hard time pulling ourselves away for outings but were well rewarded when we did. the whole area is just teeming with stunning scenery, fantastic hiking, rocky rivers and creeks to enjoy and gorgeous villages to be delighted by. The beach is a short drive away making for a fantastic day trip. We absolutely loved eating out at the many and varied local restaurants. Food and wine lovers will be in heaven, eating and drinking in some remarkable settings. Martin and Ally live close by and were always at hand to answer questions, provide suggestions for activities, make bookings, assist with getting an outdoor fire started, give directions, they provide an outstanding service. We loved our stay at MonteCastello.

Wonderful location for a week's holiday!

an 5 days of bliss, an utterly mesmerising experience
Not sure what was it was that contributed most to our experience: the majesty of the mountains, the serenity landscape, the exquisite medieval architecture of Montecastello and its surrounding mountain villages, the barbecuing skills of Martin, Ally's attention to detail or the stunning local restaurants. But i suspect that all contributed in equal measure to a delightful, restful, relaxing and unrivalled 5 day experience.

Magnificent holiday stay.
Our recent stay in Montecastello was a memorable one. From arriving to the beautiful building, the inside decor of our accommodation was superb,In keeping with the Tuscan style. The facilities in the house were everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. The walks from the house were challenging but views were magnificent, for miles you could see beautiful country side. We visited a great restaurant called La Torre which can be seen from Montecastello, food there great and reasonable and very atmospheric, we had a very enjoyable evening. One of our days was spent on a Rib which Martin and Ali the owner of Monticastello organised, the sun was shining as our party climbed aboard for a special trip along the beautiful coast line. Martin skippered and talked about the history of the different villages we passed which was very interesting but also fun. We stopped for a very nice meal at Casa Turchetti which was very picturesque. Returning to Monticastello we all swam in the beautiful pool and relaxed under the cooling sun. I would love to return to this special location as the owners made our stay memorable.

We spent a wonderful week at Montecastello last summer.
The villa was just as advertised, beautiful, very comfortable and spotlessly clean.
The villa is half way up a mountain and the views from the balcony are amazing. We were looking for a peaceful and luxurious holiday and we found it at Montecastello. Our family enjoyed a wonderful week of walking, sunbathing & swimming in the fabulous pool. Martin & Ally were excellent hosts whose recommendations were much appreciated.

Montescatello is Paradise !
We stayed with our 3 children in the villa . The location is great , it is close to beautiful cinque terre , medieval towns of umbria, southern Tuscany , Gorgeous South Tyrol in Northern Italy , Pisa , Venice and Ligurian Sea . We were able to visit all these areas from our central location Montecastello . When we came back from our adventures , the tranquility and the privacy that the villa provided was beyond expectation . We lived the true Tuscan lifestyle enjoying the fresh baked bread from the town and tasting the region wine , olive oil and amazing authentic restaurants . Ally and Martin( the owners ) were great , we came one night after a long drive and we found a warm cooked meal waiting for us . We were celebrating our daughters 14 birthday and Ally surprised her with a delicious baked cake ! We would go again in a heart beat if we could ! The location of the villa Gabe’s is best of 2 worlds , mountains and sea. The breeze during the night was an amazing gift the location has to offer . We created amazing memories at Montecastello and we were very lucky to have found this place . A true paradise !

We had an amazing holiday at ‘Monte Castello’. The property is beautifully decorated with great attention to detail.The outside living space and pool area is super for family entertaining and relaxing by the pool with a glass of vino and alfresco dining. Martin and Ally where very informative about the local area and offer a super home from home experience. The location is great with plenty of choice to either visit the coast or in the winter go to the ski slopes. Highly recommend

Fantastic property, fabulous location and a thoroughly relaxing time
We stayed here as a family a couple of years ago, everything about Montecastello surpassed our expectations. A truly magnificent property tucked away in a wilderness. The pool kept the kids entertained for hours and the adults were able to indulge in grownup time whilst keeping a watchful eye on the youngsters from the covered terraza. Martin and Ally were great hosts. They gave us sound advice about the local area and amenities. All in all an absolutely fabulous holiday we'll never forget.

Imagine waking up in a castle with magnificent views and quiet tranquillity.. Montecastello is a dream come true! My family love every moment of our many stays here. Sitting in the Terrazza for breakfast or drinks before dinner is fabulous. Thank you Martin and Ally for your kindness during our stays. Glorious two weeks
We spent two glorious weeks at Montecastello. Beautiful location. Peaceful and comfiortable, rich with options for rest, relaxation, recreation and touring. Martin and Ally are wonderful hosts...present enough to be helpful and sensitive enough to our need for privacy. Highly recommended! 5 stars INDEED! Trust the web site for accuracy in every way

Montecastello ist wirklich ein wunderschönes Anwesen in der Toskana im schönen kleinen Örtchen Tavernelle. Das Anwesen verfügt über mehrere stilvolle eingerichtet Schlafzimmer, inkl. Badezimmern und Küche auf neustem Standard (Geschirr und Gläser gibt es wirklich ausreichend). Zusätzlich ist der Pool riesig und bietet einen wunderschönen Blick in der Berge oder in der Nacht auf den klaren Sternenhimmel. Das WLAN ist schnell genug zum arbeiten und streamen und im Wohnzimmer steht ein Flachbildfernseher samt Apple TV für den entspannten Netflix-Abend. Und nun das Beste zum Schluss: Martin und Ally sind wirklich herausragend gastfreundliche und herzliche Gastgeber. Sie waren jederzeit für einen netten Plausch offen, haben unzählige Tipps gegeben, bei Reservierungen und Besorgungen selbstverständlich geholfen und wirklich alles gegeben um den Urlaub unvergesslich zu machen (Sie haben von sich aus einen hervorragenden Küchen zum Geburtstag meiner Partnerin gemacht und noch zusätzlich ihr ein Geschenk gemacht). Alles in allem, ein wunderschönes Anwesen gepaart mit hervorragenden Gastgebern perfekt für jede Art von Anlass. Nur zu empfehlen und wir werden wiederkommen. P.S.: Die Zugangsstraße soll höchstwahrscheinlich im Oktober 2020 verbessert werden, aber wer davor anreist sollte mit einem nicht allzu tiefgelegten Fahrzeug anreisen um bis zum Haus vorfahren zu können. Normaler PKW war easy, aber Sportwagen waren schwierig. Man kann aber sonst ca. 300-400 m entfernt vom Anwesen gratis parken.

My Italian Experience at Montecastello I'm not one to normally write reviews, but my experience at Montecastello Villa is definitely worth a mention, especially as it was my first visit to Italy. On arrival at the villa i was warmly greeted by Ally & Martin & was totally taken aback by its beauty & location right up in the mountains, with breathtaking views all the way round as far as the eye can see. The castle itself is magnificent, the ambiance of every room with its Tuscany decor has been well thought out to give the true feeling of an old Italian castle with everything you could possibly need for your stay at the villa. With its own swimming pool, maintained & looked after daily by Martin, relaxing around the pool, with views of the mountains was truly spectacular, the pictures just don't do it justice. Anyway I'd like to say a massive thank you to Ally & Martin for making me feel so welcome & being amazing hosts, you made my visit one to remember & I am truly in love with Italy now, thank you 🤗💕

Montecastello turned out to be the perfect destination for my family and me. The property is even more majestic in person than can be inferred from the pictures on their website. We were looking for a quiet rustic location to be our home base with the intention of taking day trips to see the local sites and surrounding cities and villages. Montecastello fit the bill. Our hosts, Martin and Ally, are wonderful people and were always close by to offer advice and directions. Their knowledge and understanding of Tuscany proved to be invaluable to us during our daily travels throughout the region. It was truly a pleasure to have met Martin and Ally and to have had the opportunity to vacation at Montecastello.

5 days of bliss, an utterly mesmerising experience. Not sure what was it was that contributed most to our experience: the majesty of the mountains, the serenity of the landscape, the exquisite medieval architecture of Montecastello and its surrounding mountain villages, the barbecuing skills of Martin, Ally's attention to detail or the stunning local restaurants. But i suspect that all contributed in equal measure to a delightful, restful, relaxing and unrivalled 5 day experience. Thank you, Ally and Martin. See you soon.

Our vacation at Montecastello was one of the most memorable and relaxing we have experienced. The view was magnificent and the location perfect as we were within driving distance of the seaside and other modern venues but within walking distance of Tavernelle. Our accomodations were fantastic and the building, itself, and attention to detail were first rate. Donna eagerly anticipated the arrival of the goat herds passing by each morning and enjoyed watching the dogs work the herd. Martin and Ally were a wealth of information, and we felt as if we had our own travel agents. Montecastello is truly a location to be experienced and enjoyed. Mark and Donna Hubbard, USA

Wir verbrachten einen wunderbaren Urlaub in Montecastello im August 2017! Das Haus ist einfach wunderschön und liebevoll eingerichtet. Die Gastgeber Martin und Ally empfingen uns sehr herzlich und führen dieses Anwesen sehr liebevoll. Das Mittagessen in La Torre war ein unvergessliches Erlebnis und sehr empfehlenswert. Dieser Aufenthalt war mit einer der schönsten Urlaube, die wir je hatten. Tuscany Stop Montecastello kann ich jedem, der einen erholsamen Urlaub inmitten einer atemberaubenden Landschaft genießen möchte, nur wärmstens empfehlen! Danke Martin und Ally! Amazing holiday. Alison and Martin were great hosts, happy to help when we needed any assistance or advice re local places of interest and then leaving us to enjoy ourselves in peace. The accommodation at Montecastello has that lovely balance of elegance and warm comfort. A lot of thought has been put in to the well equipped kitchen and the entire house has been decorated and maintained to the highest standard. The location is striking amongst ancient woodlands, mountains and steeped in history and there is good walking for those who like to explore the areas around the house on foot. The pool and outside lounge area with barbecue and dining area are inviting and private. It is only a short drive to the coast and shopping areas so a destination guaranteed to provide something for everyone. We had a birthday party celebration at Montecastello one evening and Martin and Alison organised the mouthwatering array of authentic Italian food for the occasion. All dietary needs were catered for and I can recommend the vegetarian menu which was imaginative and full of the flavours of Italy. A holiday to be remembered and one to be repeated!

MONTECASTELLO ●wonderful location in the mountains ●fabulous grounds ●Montecastello itself was like a dream minicastle with paintings and hangings, wall scripted poetry and the amazing feel of the renaissance everywhere ●meals which are available WHENEVER actually were even better than El Turre which is a wonderful restaurant overlooking the area about 10 minutes away and caters for all tastes . ●Ally and Martin our hosts were on hand to provide advice on the best places to see the 'action'. .music venues, amazing street markets, interesting coastal resorts and to organise boating trips They were happy to provide everything possible to ensure that we had a fabbo time. ●Hey it was my fourth time to visit Montecastello I THINK THAT THAT SAYS IT ALL

We have stayed at Montecastello 4 times now, and each time enjoyed our "Italian experience " the castle is delightful, well thought out with luxurious fittings, the views around are stunning, there are lots of places to explore, Tuscany is so unspoilt, it's like walking back in time, there is a fabulous rail service for sight seeing, or if you prefer just sitting in the shade by the pool enjoying the peaceful ambiance.
